What an exciting first episode! As I mentioned in our show, there is a wealth of information about Spiritual Social Action in the Dec/Jan 2009 issue of Contact Magazine. To read more about some of the projects we mentioned, download a copy of this issue by clicking here. There is a link on this page for the Dec/Jan 2009 issue.

In our discussion today Deborah spoke so passionately about The Hunger Project. This organization believes that in their work ther are three pillars are at the heart of their strategies:
1. Mobilizing people at the grassroots level to build self-reliance
2. Empowering women as key change agents
3. Forging partnerships with local government

We look forward to next week's show about a Season for Non-Violence. Our special guest will be Rev. Mary Omwake, a founding member of the Association for Global New Thought and convener of a Season for Non-Violence. "See" you then!

How AWESOME to share the good work of so many in our Unity movement! Here are some of the Unity quotes used in today's show:

Charles Fillmore Quotes
“Spiritual thinking is the pioneer that opens the way into the new birth, but it must be followed by spiritual acting on the part of every faculty.”

“So many people pray and pray and pray. They don’t get action. Our bodies need to be acted upon. It is not altogether praying, but it is doing. You must do something.” Charles Fillmore, Giving, October 21, 1928.

Ernest Holmes: “It is quite a burden lifted when we realize that we do not have to move the world – it is going to move anyway. This realization does not lessen our duty or our social obligation. It clarifies it. It enables us to do joyously, and free from morbidity, that which we should do in the social state.”

Lisa Wittman: “There was a feeling that it was more important to develop the inner person than to serve the community. While there continues to be an emphasis on developing the inner person, there has been a general movement toward a both/and attitude rather than either/or.”

Myrtle Fillmore : “As you learn to see the fullness of God’s life and love and power and substance in others... You will have the knowledge and the light to call their attention to what they have and to prompt them to use it.”

H. Emilie Cady: “…. service is one of the steps that lead up to the place where all the fullness of God awaits men…..Unless you use for the service of others what God has already given to you, you will find it a long, weary road to spiritual understanding.”
