Hello everyone, I also read & re-read A New Earth along with Oprah web-class as soon as that was over I read The Power of Now. E Tolle's teaching ring so true to me. I like to read other stuff but really put his stuff into practice in my everyday. When I feel I'm getting off track I go to my breath & bring myself to the "NOW" It never fails me.

I'd like to use this comment wall to share ideas on the book. I've been trading messages with Amee and we decided we comment chapter by chapter. Below is my summary of chapter one. It is a bit long. I'll try to keep my other posts shorter. : ) Let me know your thoughts...

I will try to keep track of all the posts and put them in a Word document. Once we are done I can email the document to anyone interested.

Peace and Love to all my friends at Unity!

Kevin

In the opening chapter of the book Eckhart Tolle uses the image of the first flower as a metaphor for human consciousness. Tolle goes on to say that eventually flowers reached critical mass and became widespread. Flowers, crystals, precious stones and birds represent examples of everyday forms that have reached a higher level. They are a pointer to the one Life and one Consciousness. Just like the flower, human consciousness has awakened to a higher form. Buddha, Jesus and others were the early flowers of humanity. After many years, today, there are signs that the human awakening is taking hold again and accelerating.

Have you experienced a shift in consciousness? Have you had a glimpse of an underlying reality?

The old state of human consciousness based on thought processes within the mind. Tolle calls it the egoic state of consciousness. This ego is the unawakened part of each one of us. The ego would like to keep us in the dark. Tolle says you can not fight the ego just like you can not fight the darkness. Tolle says ‘you are the light.’ As you experience your fundamental being the ego will fade away.

All religions point to two human fundamental frailties: 1. the normal state of mind is dysfunctional and 2. the normal state of humanity is original sin or ‘living unskillfully, blindly and thus to suffer and cause suffering.’ Examples of the dysfunctional mind are fear, greed and the desire for power.

Our technology, although an incredible demonstration of human intelligence, only amplifies the destructive power of the mind. Human technology has reached a point where it threatens the survival of the planet.

What can save us? The core of the new consciousness is a transcendence of the old mental forms and thought processes. Humans are beginning to awaken to a dimension within themselves that is infinitely more powerful than the old mental thought process. The voice in your head is not you. Who are you then? You are the ‘awareness that is prior to thought, the space in which the thought ….happens.’ The old egoic self is identified with form, primarily mental forms, and thus totally disconnected from the whole and the source.

A new heaven and a new earth are emerging. The new heaven will be realized when the flowering of human consciousness reaches its critical mass. The old earth will fade away and a new earth will take its place.

I'm reading it for a second go round as well and find more understanding of what I don't know. Know what I mean?

Dear Friends - I'm reading Eckhart Tolle's book 'A New Earth' for the second time. I come from a background of Christianity so many of the concepts are new to me. I have a question and perhaps I missed the answer in my readings thus far. What does Tolle say about the origin of our life - ie: how did the 'I am' that I am originate? I find it curious that my being would be linked to my present life and origin. Does Tolle believe in reincarnation? Master Tolle tells me to become the being that I am without the ego and pain body I carry with me. These appear to be linked to my present circumstance. I hope this makes sense......

Peace and blessings to my friends at Unity....

We cannot experience God in the past.
We cannot experience God in the future.
We can only experience God NOW!

I'm not a holy roller...I'm a Tolle roller!

Hello,
Happy to find this discussion group...I participated in Oprah's webcast featuring ET and read A New Earth and the Power of NOW. My daughter is also participating in the study and it has been so exciting to share discoveries with her. My biggest hurdle seems to be nonjudgemental with my ego. My instinct is to find the trouble maker and defend myself or attack....observing is much trickier, but I am aware that my ego is involved in the attack and defense mechanism. Do you have the same issue?

Hello everyone,
I participated in the web classes of Oprah and the message boards. Right now, I'm tackling The Power of Now and Practising the Power of Now. It has been life transforming. Hope to be a part of this group.
