I've taken a seat as member and regular listener as of 10/21. Thank you so much for following the call to share in such a way.

This week we talked about the "Ten Rules of Friendship." Of course there are an infinite amount of agreements we can make with our significant other, and we have listed our top ten for enhancing your friendship.

The recommended top ten rules of friendship are:

1. The need to be clear between friends. We often end up disappointed by not being clear in communications.
2. Prime time – Make sure you dedicate time to be exclusively with one another. And no, after ten o’clock is not prime time.
3. Be gentle with each other.
4. No arguing or fighting. If disagreements show up, agree to listen with a compassion ear and without judgment.
5. Affirm each other. In Unity we say look for the good and claim it. This is especially true for your relationships. See and acknowledge the good in your significant other and you’ll be blessed in return.
6. Play together. Set aside a time for the two of you to just have fun. With our busy lives, scheduling is a great idea.
7. Provide help generously. It serves us to go the extra mile in assisting our partner. Serve out of love and wanting to give. If you are serving out of obligation you are going to end up resentful.
8. Remain loyal in each other’s absence. If you hear criticism of your partner, either defend your partner or leave the group. Maybe both.
9. Apologize and forgive. All of us fall short of perfection on our human journey. Be quick to apologize for those things you wish you wouldn’t have said or done. Be willing to forgive when your partner falls short of the mark.
10. Seek equality in your relationship. We are all created equal. Make sure your behavior reflects that equality.

Practice these 10 rules and watch your relationship blossom!

Next week we’ll be talking about balancing work and play.

You comments are encouraged and welcome.

Blessings,

This week we talked about the importance of self-esteem in relationships. We cannot give to another what we don’t have for ourselves. Dr. Tom and Joyce have created five affirmations that support us in being the loving partner we deserve to be.

Six pillars of self-esteem
1. I exist.
2. I have my own needs.
3. I am entitled to put energy into getting those needs met.
(This could be shortened to, “I am entitled.”)
4. I am OK the way I am. (I am lovable.)
5. I am good enough.

Tuesday, June 4, 2008 – We’re talking about the ten rules for creating a healthy and supportive friendship in our primary relationship. To maintain a healthy relationship both people have to play by the same set of rules. We’ll offer up ten rules that work.

We would love respond to your questions about relationships. Feel free to post them here or give us a call on the air.

Blessings,

Rev. George
