- About Me:
- I've been blessed to always have Music as a big part of my life--my brother was a piano prodigy, my dad a jazz musician-- so i grew up with music and started composing songs, playing piano by ear and singing in church choirs at a very early age. After playing at coffee houses in colllege and clubs and restaurants for a while, I got pulled into a completely unexpected setting--the hospital--where I now play music for all kinds of patients, produce several concerts a week, and train other musicians to play at the bedside, some local and some from as far away as Africa and France. I've been a Unity music director off and on and played at New Thought churches for about twenty years, and am now back at my home church in Gainesville as the Music Director, with minister Marciah McCartney. My jazz group MoonDancer and my five-piece all women 's (yes, it's kind of like herding cats!) bluegrass/folk band Patchwork have been touring, performing and recording for over fifteen years. Patchwork was recently one of the featured acts at the 56th annual Florida Folk Festival in 2008, up on the Suwanee River--it was a blast!

A STORY AND A SONG FOR TODAY
As a professional musician playing and singing everything from choral music to jazz, bluegrass, rhythm & blues, I found myself in an unexpected place in 1995. I became the Musician in Residence for Shands Hospital's Arts in Medicine program at the University of Florida. Since then I 've been playing music in the hospital setting and training others to do the same. As I travel around the country giving talks about healing & music, people often ask how I got started doing this work.

We are working on the first week in December at the Sedona Creative Life Center and Steinway of Phoenix for two piano concerts. While there, I would like to play for at least one new thought church. I checked on Fiddler's Dream but they don't have a piano. I am starting to check with churches. I contacted New Vision. Is there a particular one that you can recommend? I play instrumental piano. Some churches like that but a few prefer vocals. I also sometimes do a concert. Thanks! - Joseph
