Life-Changing Words

The most famous of Jesus' teachings is arguably his Sermon on the Mount (or Sermon on the Plain, if you read the Gospel of Luke) which contains the Beatitudes. These are the 8 verses that begin "Blessed are...." that proceed to teach about valuable spiritual behavior and consciousness. These are meant to awaken and challenge the listeners to a new way of perceiving virtue and power in the material world. JJim and I will be discussing these teachings on Thursday.

Is there a teaching or quote fro… Continue

The Central Teachings of Jesus

In Unity, we believe that one of the most important reasons Jesus came involves his words, his life and his teachings. We believe that they all inform an example of what the living Christ in us looks like. In the coming weeks, Jim and I will be exploring the central teachings of Jesus and discussing their meaning using references from Eastern spiritual teachers and our own Emmet Fox and Eric Butterworth.
Do you have a favorite teaching of Jesus? Favorite words? Do you have words attributed to Je… Continue

New Year Vision

What vision do you have for the new year? For yourself, for your community, for our country, for the world? Holding a vision for something better than we have already experienced is the way to co-create a greater experience. But it is equally important not to resist or deny other alternatives. Remember that the bible teaches, "God works all things together for good.." meaning that there is no denying something, but an INCLUSION of all that is that goes into the mix to create what WILL BE. This i… Continue

Always happy to share. I hope you found something of value in it. Wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving, as I listen to part two of your archived program on the Psalms!

HA! Yes again! "Not always, but sometimes." THAT is the appropriate response! Anyway, thought you might enjoy this article: http://appropriateresponse.wordpress.com/2008/12/11/decisions-and-problems/
Looking forward to future appropriate responses. God Bless.

Yes!! Exactly! All is grist for the mill...and I guess the best we can hope to do is interpret our experience in ways that bring us closer to the light...or perhaps make the ever-present light shine a little brighter. I forget the exact details, but somebody once asked a great Buddhist teacher what enlightenment is (or perhaps he asked what Zen is....I don't claim to be enlightened, so my memory is by no means perfect!), and the answer was simply, "Appropriate response." I always liked that. (Note that I DO remember the "appropriate response.") But regarding the grist for the mill, are you familiar with Ram Das's book that bears that title? It's really a great book with some great stories and insights. Take best of care. Hope to hear more from you.

Yes, the existential interpretation of the Bible, in my opinion, is definitely the most appropriate--the most unifying and, therefore, timeless...at least in a sense. But I was actually engaging in a little interfaith word-play with "drama" and "darma." The latter is a term most commonly associated with Buddhism, but it originally appeared in Hinduism. It carries several connotations, but I was using it in the sense of "eternal order"--similar, I guess, to the "Tao" or even the "Logos." So, I guess the question could be restated as "How does all of this scandal and disorder arise from an original perfect order?" Anyway, thanks so much for the discussion!

Hi again, Karen. Already done! Enjoyed the show very much. A very creative touch, indeed! But such heresy! Such scandal! Reducing sacred literature to tabloid fanfare! How dare you? HA! Just kidding of course! Really great stuff. I think we need a follow-up on how all this drama emerges from the eternal darma...or maybe that is a topic for Metaphysical Romp...? At any rate, thanks again, and do keep in touch. I'll be listening. Vanakam.

Thank you, Karen. A late reply is always better than no reply! I listen to your show pretty regularly. I'm actually listening to an archived show on the book of Psalms right now. Just what I need to uplift me during this holiday season! Have a great Thanksgiving yourself! Namaste.

Hi Karen! It was wonderful to finally meet you in person. Judy and I just love your church and we hope to come back the next time we are in or around New Braunfels. I'm joining with you and your congregation in prayer as you bless the next phase of new construction.

I really have enjoyed your talks on the Gospel of Thomas that I downloaded from your church website. Thank you for making those available.

Hi Karen,

This is my first visit to Unity FM and I am really enjoying. Tho, we have been to the Unity churches in Tulsa, and Joplin,MO, we are now about an hour from either. Since I am on chemo pretty regularly, for breast cancer, I am not able to get to church much so this is a nice option. Perhaps it will encourage me to get on the puter more often.
A very Merry to you, Karen
