Heyyyyy! - You must be psychic! I was on the website for the first time in a long time today - and I was re-reading your comment on the Tolle book club forum. When I'm not 'expecting' any particular response....I'm a darned good "sender". Been stickin' close to my friend w/throat CA as she has just completed 5 chemo treatments and 34 radiation blasts. ugh. This last one really got her! She's been inpatient for 7 days now with a fever that won't respond to ABX. I think they said she has strep at her trach site, but they continue to take blood cultures. I'm praying there's no MRSA hangin' around. She also needed 2 units of blood the other day for low H&H count and one kidney had started to go into failure. Hope all of that doesn't add to your own concerns...but I AM wondering -- how goes it for you?!? Still sending light and prayers for complete recovery! I am co-facilitating the Oprah/Tolle book discussion with our Unity minister. Showing the webcast each week and then discussion. We are all enjoying it so much. The new paradigm (new? remembered?) has really been a challenge to employ, and has truly begun to make a difference. Biggest challenge lately has been financial. I guess that's many people's story these days. I'm still not working so no income. Have 2 weeks until my 180 day sick leave is over and I must give up my slot. "Working" to get out of my own way regarding what direction I should take. Mortgage, car insurance, utilities due in three weeks. Tune in NEXT week to see how our heroine practices ego-disidentification to a point where she can 'calmly' co-create the vision she truly wants to create. It's HARD to stay in the Now when the wolves are at the door! Maybe I'll turn the wolves into cute, irresistible puppies and SELL them cuz they're wolves! What a novelty -- pet wolves! Well....it was great 'visioning' with you - lol. Thanks for helping me hold the space! :) Take care, Psi, and let me know what's up! kt

What a wonderful idea Karen. I hope it went well! Anytime we can get out of our relentless thought patterns and find stillness, we can get our balance again. Not always easy, but certainly a wonderful process- especially when you share it! Chemo is a doozy, realize that she may be very fatigued, nauseous and irritable, all depends. Hopefully, she can get rest and bounce right back. Sending some love and waves over to you and your friend. One Love.

Hey Psi - Been thinking about you and just wanted to drop a quick line to tell you. On my way out to sit with a friend while she receives chemo. Taking my iPod and little screen-y thing that has the Oprah/Eckhart Tolle webcast on it. Figure it will be good replacement for whatever is going through her mind otherwise. Sending you light and energy always and would love to hear what's new with you (when you have time) kt

Hi Psi - (listening to Ching Theory as I write this)...wanted to 'dash off a quick note' to let you know 1) the article on anemia was really helpful. My 25 y/o dtr struggles with Lupus and the med she's on has created anemia. She had most of the symptoms listed in the article and so, since her recent labs confirmed anemia, now she knows why; 2) our Unity minister's partner was recently dx'd with stage 3/4 throat CA. They did a reversible trach and are bombarding her with chemo and, soon, radiation in the mix. I really appreciated your thoughts on friends 'getting on with routines' and 'not knowing what to say'. (tuning in Sun Halo now). I am recovering from a small stroke and have not returned to work yet on the oncology floor of a hospital. What I've learned over the years is that people are sooooo not comfortable speaking/thinking about death that they avoid it at every turn. It seemed to be most supportive and comforting to our patients to not be in denial about the truth of a situation and to speak plainly. So thanks again for the Truth...; 3) love your music! I think I am a closet raver born 30 years too early. I also play keyboard and am puzzling over how to use Garage Band. Finally got a midi connector...so we'll see! Sending minister's partner this site and your comments. You are a Blessing Psi! kt p.s. GREAT graphic designs. what talent!

Thank you for your kind comments... I plan to read some of your blog at some point but it sounds like we have a lot of things in common that we could talk about. Let's do that at some point -- David

Don't Be a Stranger

When a person is diagnosed with cancer, it puts in motion a series of events that can have wide ranging consequences for personal and professional relationships. In many cases, people who are diagnosed with cancer and begin treatment face interruptions in their normal routines that span from mild to severe.

Depending on the stage of cancer diagnosed, further testing and treatment may need to begin immediately often leading to schedules that are blown off course. In a life-changing event such as this, it is easy to lose the day to day camaraderie of colleagues, friends and fellow workers. When a patient is away from their routine for some time, an awkwardness can creep in based on the right way to approach the patient's cancer battle.

This awkwardness stems from the fact that folks in a standardized routine, say, going to work or school each day, really don't want to be reminded that illness and loss of routine can happen to them. They tend to not know what to say to those who are battling cancer and thus a gulf exists in communication. One party doesn't want to be reminded of how anyone is susceptible to cancer and the survivors don't want to be left out of everyday life and cut off from communication. Former co-workers, colleagues, family and friends just 'don't know what to say' to cancer patients.

It's really simple. Acknowledge that the person battling cancer is doing so and just be yourself! The cancer patient will welcome hearing from all those who shared their world and who are genuinely interested in their recovery and future. Don't be a stranger!

You will not offend anyone by honestly connecting to them and sending along your greetings. Just use common sense, be tactful and let the sunshine in – it will make a lot of difference, guaranteed!
