Thanks, Paul, for your detailed insights into this vast question! I, too, have struggled with the notion that A Course In Miracles puts forth that God did not create separation so that we must be the creators of the Universe with our minds of sepa...

“Is the theory of Evolution compatible with the biblical creation story?” It is interesting to me that they both involve time, and that both require an assumption of sequential causality that is dependent upon unidirectional time. In Creationism, ...

Is Evolution Theory Compatible with the Creation Story of Genesis?

LOTS of talk, controversy and litigation is wrapped up in this question! While Charles Darwin put forth a theory as a scientist, his theory has kept the Church on its toes defending biblical creation stories. "Stories"? Yes, actually, there are TWO stories of the creation of humanity in the book of Genesis, back to back. Unity has a take on the reason for borh of the stories from a symbolic viewpoint that actually has also been put forth by rabbinical teachings of the Talmud. Jim and I will be d… Continue

God And Your Tithe

If there is anything more controversial than "God and money", I'm not sure I know what it is! Money and its use is so closely tied to how we give and receive love, our worthiness issues and the unconditional Love of God that we often avoid having the conversation at all! In Unity, we understand that God loves us unconditionally and as Jesus reminds us, "It is the Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." But that's not how it always feels, nor is it what we always experience! Depending on… Continue

Being A Minister

When I was little, I went to a Catholic grade school. The rectory where the priests lived was on the same campus at one end of the parking lot and playground from the classrooms. I remember playing ball with my friends at recess and suddenly kids stopped playing and began moving out of the way as the tall priest dressed in his black cassock walked through the sea of children. He was smiling and chatting to various children he was passing, sometimes reaching out and rustling someone's hair or sim… Continue

Wrath of God = Nuclear Destruction??

On another bulletin board of new thought discussion (not on this site), I recently noticed the contention that the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was the work of a nuclear blast, equating the "wrath of God" with nuclear destruction. The comment was based on scientific findings at that ancient site of some of the effects one might find after a nuclear blast -- a popular theory that erupted was that "alien" beings may have destroyed the ancient cities and the biblical record grappled with their… Continue

Instruments of Creation

I just came back from leading a women's retreat on Creativity. During the retreat, we practiced different forms of art and creativity and I gave the women a directive to share what they had each created over the weekend on Sunday morning at our service. I was given two poems that came very spontaneously that speak to how we cooperate with the creative urge and the Divine. See what you think as you read them -- if they spark some response in you or if you have something to share in this same vein… Continue

Hi Karen. I just finished listening to one of your programs where you discuss the scene where Jesus orders the handicapped man sitting near the Bethesda pool to rise from his matt and walk. I just wanted to thank you for your explanation and also offer another comment. I find it rather remarkable that this man has been residing by the pool, on a matt, for 38 years. That 38 seems to be significant in that it is right around "mid-life" when many people undergo rather traumatic, life-changing transformations. Could it be that Jesus is ordering this man to get off of his meditation matt and venture forth into the mundane world--a world which he has yet to encounter and from which he has shrunk for the first part of his life? (For some unknown reason)
