Watch what you pray for and praying with others

This week we reviewed the phrases, “Watch what you pray for, watch what you ask for.” This is a fear based statement that should not be associated with prayer. First, in Unity what you will realize as a result of prayer are Divine Ideas not things. In Unity, we are not about a God, Divine Being, that answers prayer. How could we be afraid of Divine Idea? Divine Ideas are Absolute Good, Good without an opposite. Once aware of Divine Idea, we get to decide how we use them.

We reviewed the 5 step… Continue

Hi Everyone, Here is some info from the Metaromp Program for September 16, 2008. Enjoy!

This week we explored the phrases, “the call, the heard the call,” We could even include the scriptural reference, many are called, few are chosen. The replacement phrase would be something like, “I heard or hear my Inner call.” We then looked into the meaning of “thou should not kill” as well as explored the Power of Love. This Power is so much more than simply our “affectional” nature. It is the Power behind the Law of Mind Action and the Law of Attraction.

"What is called 'divine guidance' is a flow of Infinite Mind. It is universal in that it is a principle of mind action and not dependent upon a special appeal. It is personal in that it is a process of the presence of this Mind that 'knows what you need before you ask him' (Mt. 6:8). It makes no choice for you, but it is the urge and energy through which you can make the choice that is best in terms of your own consciousness. It is not a special act of God but a specialization of the omniscience and omni-action of the presence of God.
Divine guidance is not prejudiced. It does not come with one fixed and unalterable step to be taken. It is, rather, a wisdom, a light, a supportive flow that enables you to see the road ahead with amazing clarity and to use your own wisdom at its highest level of development. Divine guidance can never lead you to take a step that is beyond your ability to understand or rightly use. (Eric Butterworth, In the Flow of Life, pg. 72)

Thou shalt not kill. From a Bible study in Unity Magazine.

If we apply the same rule to this commandment that Jesus did to the seventh, we shall be guilty of murder if we in our hearts condemn to death any man or woman. It is quite common to hear the reader of the daily crime calendar say of some heinous murderer, “That man ought to be hung.” Thus, the murderous thought goes forth on the wings of that all-pervading thought-stuff in which we live, and may find lodgment in some susceptible mind and cause him to commit crime. Be careful what you think. That which is thought in the “closet” (secret consciousness) shall be declared upon the “housetop” (outer expression).

[This mind stuff may be equated to what has been called the ether or ethers. In the Revealing Word, pp. 63 and 64, we can read, “ether – the spiritual substance in which we live, move, and have our being and out of which can be made whatever we desire. …One with spiritual understanding knows that the ether exists as an emanation of Mind and should not be confused in its limitation with matter. Its being is governed and sustained by ideas, and ideas have no physical dimensions.
Lynn McTaggert, author of The Field, refers to some “stuff” that underlies everything.]

God is the life of all that lives. Whoever slays the temple of that life, with the thought that he is destroying life, is trying to kill God. “Who lives by the sword shall die by the sword.” A destructive thought produces destruction in the one who generates it. “Thou shalt not kill,” covers every phase of manifest life. If you want long life, protect the life about you in all its forms. …”
Musings about the Power of Love
By Paul Hasselbeck

Perhaps we think of the power of Love too narrowly because of our own association with and experience of love in our everyday lives. Charles Fillmore has said that Love is the great harmonizer and the great attractor.

We talk about the power of our thoughts, what we think and feel about increases in consciousness and what we think about tends to “out-picture” in the world around us. We might also say what we think about is what we then “tend” to see in the outer. We could also add that what we think and feel about tends to have a great effect in consciousness and then what tends to “out-picture” in the world around us.

We also talk about this in the context of the Law of Attraction. Now, I believe it is not so much that we are attracting stuff to us as it is that WE ARE THE ONES ATTRACTED to what we think about. If I decided to buy a Volkswagon Beetle I tend to see more of them on the road. Not because there are more to see but because I am attracting myself to them by my selective perception.

Given this Law of Attraction, then it could just be this law is based on the Power of Love.
Could it be that another definition we could use for love is the great “focuser.” We could say what we focus on increases. When we focus on the “negative” we are actually loving the negative in the moment and by this focus the power of Love goes about
“harmonizing” everything to that negativity starting from the inner and progressing to the outer. We now tend to see things through this negative focus.

You see we have been limiting our definition of love here and only seeing it in the “good” sense since in the Absolute there is “Absolute Good.” Fillmore wrote that each of the powers can be used on the personal level instead of the universal level. We think of the word harmony or harmonizer and we think of these in a positive sense. Bring harmony to a situation means smoothing things out and making everything better. However, if Love/Harmony are PRINCIPLES then they do not care how they are used. Then Love, the great harmonizer really is a principle that brings two or more things into harmony with each other. It says nothing about what that harmony looks and feels like. So, when we are focusing on the negative we could say this is loving the negative and then this principle simply harmonizes all the thoughts to be negative thus affecting consciousness in the same way and then tending to harmonize the outer with the same negative focus.

Perhaps this is one reason that Charles Fillmore emphasized that the Power of Love must be used with the Power of Wisdom. Without Wisdom, love simply loves indescriminantly.

Finally, our Quantum Physics friends tell us the universe operates on intention and not on force. Could we say then that intention is a kind of focus? Is intention simply another form of Love?
