Wow... I totally missed your post. I apologize for the delay. Here is my response on the root of evil. Here is what I have in the Metaphysics Text:
ORIGIN OF SIN AND EVIL
“Humankind came out of God, is of the same mind elements, and exists within the mind of God always. Yet by thinking that one is separate from omnipresent Spirit he or she has set up a mental state of apartness from his or her source and dwells in ignorance of that which is nearer than hands and feet.” (Twelve Powers/160)
“By and through the imaging power of thought people can produce illusions that confuse them. This occurs only when they fail to look to Divine Mind for the source and nature of their ideals. Obviously, many are deceived into thinking that they are indeed bound, and the unhappy conditions claimed do show forth in them. This is only consciousness entangled in its own effects.” (Keep a True lent/63-64)
What we perceive as sin and evil does not originate in Divine Mind. They exist because humankind persists in thinking and believing in separation from Spirit. This sense of separation is the source of sin and evil. From our sense of separation we can choose to identify with negative emotions and concepts of ourselves that are lies and illusions. This results in error thinking, sin and evil.
Blessings, Paul
